Ken Lewis grew up in Riverside Addition in Orange, the grandson of western Louisiana sharecropping, one-mule farmers who scratched out a living on a farm without running water or indoor plumbing, and the son of a shift-working refinery father and minimum-wage secretary mother who commuted to Lamar at night for many years to become a teacher. He loved both sports and academics and played four varsity sports after moving to Little Cypress for junior high and high school. He worked a variety of labor jobs at paper mills, shipyards, warehouses, rice canal maintenance, brush cutting, asphalt production, roofing, and retail to be able to earn his degree at Lamar. He worked his way through graduate school at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, as a teaching assistant and a researcher and stock runner for a stockbroker, while becoming active in Democratic politics in Ohio when Carl Stokes was mayor of Cleveland.

After 1-1/2 years of business machine and retirement annuity sales in Houston and Hawaii (where he was licensed both by the NASD and the Hawaii Insurance Commission), he worked his way through law school in 2-1/2 years to enter a profession where he could help others and try to accomplish positive change. The decision to return to the Golden Triangle to practice personal injury trial law in Beaumont was a natural one because of his familiarity with the people and the area work conditions. Five years later, in the minimum time allowed, Ken Lewis had enough personal injury trial law experience and expertise to be Board Certified in Personal Injury Trial Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization.

A sustaining member of both the Texas Trial Lawyers Association (as well as one of its directors for 10 years) and Association of Trial Lawyers of America and lifetime director and past president of the Southeast Texas Trial Lawyers Association, Ken's desire to be aware of new consumer dangers, sources of injuries, and emerging trial tactics has caused him to join ATLA sections on Admiralty; Civil Rights; Federal Tort Liability & Military Advocacy; Motor Vehicle Collision; Highway & Premises Liability; Employment Law; Business Torts; Civil Rights; and Products Liability and specialized litigation groups that have included AIEG (dealing with motor vehicle, recreational vehicle, and recreational marine craft defects and related safety equipment defects); Birth Trauma; Child Sex Abuse; Medical Negligence; Diet Products; Insurance Bad Faith; Contraceptive Implants; BIC Lighters.

His past work in complex personal injury and wrongful death cases has created specialized interest in major workplace disasters, fire and smoke injuries, mass torts, environmental accidents, unusual personal injuries, dangerous pharmaceutical drugs and devices, accountability for child sex abuse, and defects in truck, cars, and roadways which either cause or increase personal injuries in accidents.

Ken tries to improve his profession, having served as past president of the Jefferson County Young Lawyers and the Southeast Texas Trial Lawyers associations; a director of the Jefferson County Bar, Texas Trial Lawyers, and the Southeast Texas Trial Lawyers associations; a frequent educational speaker and writer for lawyers and paralegal groups; a volunteer state bar prosecutor of lawyers for professional ethical violations; and a frequent member of various professional committees. Ken is married to Nurse Practitioner Kathleen Cole Lewis of Groves, the father of two boys and two girls and a stepfather of another son. He coaches youth sports, is a avid reader and environmentalist, and enjoys fishing, sports and backpacking. He and his family are members of Trinity United Methodist Church.
